Cill Damhnat (called “Kildavnet” or Grainne’s Castle in English). You can see this from our house, and most of my family is buried in the cemetery next to and across the road from it. There are the ruins of a 7th century church next to it, which is the actual Cill Damhnait (transl: “Church of Dymphna,” built by St Dymphna). The tower was built by the O’Malley clan, and the ‘pirate queen’ Grace O’Malley (Gráinne Mhaol) herself resided there for a while.
